Fee Structure

I will always agree a fixed fee for a mediation. The fee will be based on the monetary value of the claim, its complexity and the number of parties. The fee will include:

  • Reasonable preparation time (up to 4 hours for a full day’s mediation) to cover reading the papers and speaking to the parties in advance of the mediation;

  • Travel time;

  • Preparation of the mediation agreement;

  • The mediation day itself (usually this is 10.00 am to 6.00 pm); and

  • Some limited further work after the mediation.

The fee will not include accommodation costs or travel expenses, although I would not expect to charge either for mediations that take place in Yorkshire. The parties are responsible for providing a venue for the mediation as well as meal/tea/coffee costs.

The following fees are given by way of an example and assume a full day mediation (10.00 am to 6.00 pm) which involves two parties and takes place in Yorkshire.

Amount in dispute (£)         Fee per party (£) (excluding VAT)

0 to 99,999                        750

100,000 to 500,000           950

500,000 to 999,999           1,250

Over 1,000,000/               To be agreed

Unquantified

Additional time spent on preparation for the mediation or for work beyond the agreed length of the mediation day will be charged at £200 per hour (excluding VAT). I will always discuss additional charges with you before they are incurred.

I am happy to accept mediations involving more than two parties and this may reduce the cost per party.

In lower value, less complex cases, a half day mediation may be appropriate.

I charge travel costs for mediations outside Yorkshire either on the basis of standard class rail fares or 45p per mile.

I provide my services through Lapis Litigation Limited and my fees are subject to VAT.
